[1] The Grant
International Collaborative Research Grant aims at nurturing international scientist researchers by providing support for promising young investigators to do research at international level.
[2] Eligibility
Applicants must meet all of the following eligibility criteria:
  1. Applicant must be an employee of Kumamoto University with a teaching/research position at a laboratory participating in the AIDS gCOE program.
  2. Applicant must be under 42 years of age, and within ten years of receiving the doctoral degree at the time of submission deadline.
  3. Proposal International Collaborative Research must have gained some achievement.
[3] Application and Review Procedure

Applicants must discuss proposal research with their international collaborators in advance. Application form must be submitted in English. Applicants may seek advice from senior mentors; however senior mentors should not be directly involved in the application preparation.

Applications will be evaluated by an External Scientific Advisory Committee and final decision will be made by the AIDS gCOE Grant Review Board. Applicants may be called for an interview if necessary.

This grant provides support for a period of one year. A maximum of three Grants will be offered each year; however, contingent upon availability of funds and scientific merit of the applications, four or more grants may be awarded.

Applications are called for once a year in April. However, an additional call for application may be considered if the Grant does not receive a sufficient number of meritorious applications.

  2.  Title of Collaborative Research
  3.  Collaborator Information: Name, Age, Affiliation, Position.
  4.  Research Summary
  5.  Stage of Report Preparations that pertinent to proposal research, including results or achievement so far.
  6.  Stage of Collaboration, Contact matters with Collaborator so far (attach papers, abstracts for international scientific meetings, exchange emails , etc. which demonstrate the progress of collaboration)
  7.  Research Plan
  8.  Expecting Results
  9.  Publication List of Applicant during the past three years
  10. Publication List of Collaborator during the past three years

[4] Award Provisions

1. Recipient will be awarded with an annual amount up to 5,000,000JPY to be used for research expenses.

2. Scope of research expenses:

  • Grants are primarily to cover for research expenses incurred in Japan domestically. Use for necessary research expenses incurred outside of Japan is subject to consultation.
  • Travel expenses of grant recipients and their collaborators, which are needed specifically for the performance of proposal research. (exclusive of travel expenses to attend scientific meetings)
  • Research consumables and equipments necessary for the proposed international collaborative research.
  • Employment expenses of necessary research assistant personnel.
  • Others expenses specifically necessary to the proposal research, providing that such payments are payable by Kumamoto University. 
[5] Obligation of Grant Recipients
  • Recipients are required to submit Research Report at the end of fiscal year.
